You probably already know that you should be updating your website content regularly. But, with this month’s Google Core Update, it may be time to bring it to the top of your to-do list.

Whether you’ve seen a decrease in traffic or you’re just trying to be proactive this week, updating your old content is a great first step. The key is here is to ensure your content is refreshed so it’s relevant, adds value, and is up-to-date with current information.

In his recent blog, Neil Patel outlines some great ideas for optimizing your content in light of the new Google algorithm. Here are a few actionable steps you can take to update your website content today:

  • Make your content simpler by removing fluff and any excess verbiage that doesn’t contribute to the value of the piece.
  • Update content that’s specific to a time period – like facts and statistics – in order to make them evergreen or relevant for today.
  • If you have content that can’t be refreshed, delete it or redirect it to the most relevant URL on the site.
