Bringing Context and Nuance to Twitter with Voice Tweets

Twitter is currently testing a new feature on iOS – voice tweets. As the name suggests, voice tweets allow users to add their own personal flair by hitting record on their Twitter composers and tweeting their own voices.

Gone are the days of misunderstood tweets limited to 280 characters. The new voice tweets can capture up to 140 seconds of audio and will be visible in-feed, along with other, regular ol’ tweets.

The move comes after Twitter’s recent battles with misinformation, though, the jury’s still out on whether the new feature will do more harm than good. Users have expressed concerns over verbal harassment, stalking and bullying that could be more difficult to detect than text.

If you’re interested in trying out the new feature (and you’re an iPhone user), open up your Twitter app, hit the compose button and look for the soundwave icon. The floor is yours!
